Typing TipsSet up a schedule. Unless you establish a "schedule for learning" it is all to easy to find an excuse for not practicing. The Little Professor never promised you a rose garden. It takes practice to develop touch-keyboarding skills.Finger placement. Gently place the fingers of your left hand on the a s d f keys and the fingers of your right hand on the j k l ; keys. Your fingers should be slightly curved. Your wrists should be low but not resting on the keyboard. Your elbows should be close in, next to your side. Only move the fingers needed. Let your brain train your fingers. Only use the assigned finger to strike a key. Do not allow other fingers to wander away from their assigned home-row keys. This may be awkward at first but but you can do it! Let your brain train your fingers. Numerous typing exercises are needed. Remember, practice is necessary to develop typing skills. The problem is that boredom can set in if you are constantly re-keying the same exercises. To prevent this from happening, there are over hundreds of typing exercises built into the Nimblefingers typing programs, plus there are hundreds of downloadable exercises. Posture is important. If the keyboard or your posture position changes, sound typing skills will not develop. Always maintain correct posture while typing. If you do not sit up straight and keep your feet flat on the floor, the angle of your arms will change; thus changing the keystroke reach. This decreases your typing speed and accuracy. Check your hands! Your fingers should be on the home-row keys and your hands should slant at the same angle as the keyboard. Do not let your wrists become lazy and rest against the desk or the keyboard. Re-key an exercise if you are not satisfied. After typing the beginning exercises, using the correct finger should be automatic. If you look at the keyboard when you type, rerun the appropriate exercise. |
Which exercise would you select? With Nimble Fingers - Word Wacker and Typing & Data Entry programs, You select the drill of interest to you. A few of the over 500 exercises are shown. We will try to keep things interesting for you. Plus there are hundreds of FREE exercises available as downloads. How about an exercise on a fast cat? The cheetah is the fastest mammal on Earth. The cat can exceed speeds of 68 mph when in pursuit of its prey. The cat's long legs and agile body permit it to run a quick zigzagged course. Its vivid green eyes, spotted coat, and long tail make it one of the most beautiful animals in the African and South Asian jungles. Or an exercise on a flying fish? Perhaps you thought you were dreaming when you saw fish skip or jump from one wave top to another when visiting the beach. They are flying fish, and they are escaping from a predator below. Wing-like pectoral fins enable the fish to jump exceptionally far. They can quickly zip by at 55 mph. How about an exercise on spins? A spin is a stall where one wing drops and puts the aircraft into a cork- screw descent. This is a hazardous condition and the aircraft will remain in a spin until the controls are adjusted to stop it. Five percent of all small aircraft accidents are caused by accidental spins. It is not a complex maneuver, but for safety sake, it is a good idea to practice an adequate recovery with an instructor before venturing into the airways. Or an exercise on "playing with a full deck?" In order to raise revenue, the government in the days of old levied a tax when purchasing playing cards. However, the tax only applied to the ace of spades. To avoid paying the tax, people would purchase the other 51 cards instead. However, most card games require 52 cards. These people were thought to be stupid when others realized they weren't "playing with a full deck." The term now applies to any unjustified activity. Using Nimble Fingers, typing will be fun. |
