Stretching - Typing TipsStrike. Use a quick stroke to strike and bounce off keys in data entry.Faster! After you learn the basic keystrokes, type faster than comfortable. Use the correct finger. Return your finger to the assigned location. Analyze errors. If errors are occurring on the bottom-row keys, move your chair back from the keyboard and slightly raise your wrists. Thumbs. While your fingers are gently touching the home-row keys, the thumbs should be slightly above the space bar (the long bar at the bottom of the keyboard). To press the space bar, make a quick downward motion with your right thumb. Positive attitude. Learning can be fun.. If you have a positive attitude. Smile! It releases tensions and makes for a happy environment. Move it! Keep up a fast pace. Fun! The finger coordination and stress reducting exercises, will help reduce tensions, and they often produce a smile. Short fingers? Then pivot with the little or index finger for long reaches. Fast fingers. With practice, speed and accuracy will evolve. Finger dexterity. Try the finger dexterity exercises in the Healthy Typing section. Develop a routine. Set the work environment like you want it to optimize your learning sessions. Do not let the chair height; tilt of the monitor, location of the keyboard or posture vary from session to session. Do you have an extra fifteen minutes? Then you can complete a couple of practice exercises. It might not sound like much, but you have helped develop your keyboarding skills. Concentrate! If your mind wanders, you will increase the number of errors. Interruptions are awful! A distraction can result in an error. You can do it! You can learn how to type. Otherwise, errors will occur. There is a proper relationship between the user and the equipment. Chair height. An adjustable chair is preferred to allow for a comfortable, natural distance between chair, desk and monitor. Material on right. Material should be on the right and elevated for reading ease. Improve your posture. Poor posture is tiring and leads to typing errors. It is important not to slouch in your chair. Keep feet flat on the floor. Take care with when keying home row keys. The home row exercises are simple and you might be tempted to skip them. However these are very important exercises because you are beginning to train your fingers in the correct keystroke reaches.
