Typing Tips for SmilingYes, Fun! The finger coordination and stress reducting exercises, will help reduce tensions, and they often produce a smile. Check out the "Healthy" section.Two-step? The Samba? Check out the finger dexterity exercises." Positive attitude. Learning can be fun. If you have a positive attitude. Smile! It releases tensions and makes for a happy environment. Relax. Concentrate, but try not to be tense. Move it! Keep up a fast pace. Check your fingers. Are your fingers curved? Are they on the correct home row keys? Finger placement. Gently place the fingers of your left hand on the A S D F keys. The fingers of your right hand should be on the J K L ; keys. Thumbs. While your fingers are gently touching the home-row keys, the thumbs should be slightly above the space bar (the long bar at the bottom of the keyboard). To press the space bar, make a quick downward motion with your right thumb. Whisper. Whisper each letter as you use a quick stroke to strike and bounce off keys. Do not “press” or “mush down” on the key. Return your finger to the assigned home row location. Keep your fingernails trimmed. Strike each key with the pad of your finger, not your fingernails. Practice! You can learn the numeric pad by keying the numeric exercises! Accuracy! Concentrate on keying data accuracy. Speed will improve with practice. Beep! Beep! The computer will provide a beep for an incorrect keystroke. This immediate feedback will assist you in quickly learning the correct keystrokes. Fun! The accuracy of an information system is only as accurate as the data entered into the system. Yes! You can learn how to type. It just requires practice and Nimble Fingers. Type smooth! Type at a smooth, easy pace. Uncluttered table. The table should be free of unneeded books or distractions. Direct your full attention to the material and do not let your eyes or mind wander. Also, when extra paper is removed from the work environment, glare is reduced. Keyboard height. If the keyboard is too high (i.e., chair too low) errors tend to occur in the top keyboard rows. If the keyboard is too low (i.e., chair too high) errors tend to occur on the bottom keyboard rows. Finger placement. Gently place the fingers of your left hand on the a s d f keys and the fingers of your right hand on the j k l ; keys. Your fingers should be slightly curved. Your wrists should be low but not resting on the keyboard. Your elbows should be close in, next to your side. Thumbs. While your fingers are gently touching the home-row keys, the thumbs should be slightly above the space bar (the long bar at the bottom of the keyboard). To press the space bar, make a quick downward motion with your right thumb. Positive attitude. If you have a positive attitude, learning will be fun. Short fingers? Then pivot with the little or index finger for long reaches. Fast fingers. With practice, speed and accuracy will evolve. Locate the home-row keys. Force yourself to use the correct fingers to strike the keys. If you forget which finger to use, look at the picture accompanying the exercise. Type without looking at the keys. Use a quick stroke to strike each key. Do not press the key. Strike the key quickly and move on! Don’t worry about speed and accuracy. Relax when keying the beginning exercises. However, always use the correct finger/keystroke pattern. Speed and accuracy will develop naturally through practice once your fingers have been correctly trained. |
