Typing Exercises to Reduce Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The Arm - Wrist - Fist Exercises have been improved by Dr. Housang Seradge. He has conducted studies that indicate patients with mild carpal tunnel symptoms were able to improve themselves by using the below exercises. Basically carpal tunnel is brought about with repetitive motions such as typing. (See article on Carpal Tunnel.)

Make a tight fist with both hands.
Extend arms outward.

  • Bend the wrists down while keeping a fist.
  • Hold for count of five.
  • Straighten both wrists.
  • Relax for a count of five.
  • Repeat exercise ten times.
Touch Typing fingers Hold both hands and fingers straight out.
Extend arms outward .

  • Bend both wrists and fingers up.
  • Hold for count of five.
  • Straighten both wrists and fingers.
  • Relax for a count of five
  • Repeat exercise ten times.
Dr. Seradge suggests doing a quick warm-up before starting to type to help prevent injuries.
